A 19th-century engineering marvel — the Kuranda Scenic Railway winds from Cairns up through World Heritage rainforest, past Barron Falls and through 15 hand-cut tunnels to the village of Kuranda.
Built in the 1880s by hand, the Kuranda Scenic Railway is one of Far North Queensland's signature experiences. The train climbs from Cairns through the Barron Gorge, crossing soaring bridges and passing waterfalls to reach Kuranda. Many visitors pair it with the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for a loop — train up, gondola down (or vice versa). Heritage and premium Gold Class services run daily.
